High Anxiety

Hey! My 500th post! For my three readers! Ready for some good bloggity fun, guys?

Fun, maybe not so much. Bad combinations: wonderful, bright, sweet, but highly self-involved child with AS paired with wonderful, bright, sweet, but highly anxious and kind of OCD-ish younger sibling. The dialogue most mornings:

Secundo: We're going to be late! Get dressed!
Primera: I need to stretch!
(pause for two minutes while Prima attempts to go back to sleep w/o anyone noticing)
Secundo: Primera! You went back to sleep! We're going to be late! It's all your fault! You're being selfish! Get dressed!
(I attempt to intercede on Primera's behalf and to get her moving)
Primera: Can I take a shower?
(today spouse was home. I said no, so she turned around and asked him and he let her. Good job with the consistency there.)
Five minutes pass. Secundo discovers her curled up on the floor with her bathrobe on.
Secundo: Primera, we're going to be...(repeat as needed for several minutes)
Primera: I'm cold! I need to warm up!

And so on, unless I'm standing RIGHT ON TOP OF HER to get her ready, because she is just blissfully focused on her own internal state and does not see that she is driving her brother batshit crazy b/c he is obsessed with time and its passage. I start getting behavioral with various reinforcers and contingencies, usually, but this AM the spousal unit was supposedly on-duty b/c they're going to a water park, and I don't do water parks. It's sort of painful, b/c yeah, the stalling and self-absorption are annoying (though also kind of funny and endearing at times), but it's obviously such a yooge deal to the younger one. Irresistible force, meet immoveable object.
