Whee! Two hits today! I may shut these Internets down!!

CSE at Primera's school. I laid the 13-page speech eval on them that I'd had done in September. Lots about how much has changed since September. Things I hate to hear at meetings: "She's a whole different child" (no, she's not. Your perceptions of her have just changed. Also, I liked the one I had--I can't remember the Restoration comedy in which the male lead said that he had learned off his love's faults so well that he was almost as fond of them as her virtues. The heroine's name is Millamant.* There are times when I adore her faults); "She's made so much progress this year" (I realize this is entirely human and I've been guilty of the same thing myself as a teacher, but I see this as the teachers patting themselves on the back for their miracle working). The principal said she's a success story, which she's said to me before, and on some levels I don't mind and on some levels I'm wondering about all the other kids who aren't success stories.

Or am I snatching defeat from the jaws of victory? She's done well this year. Not every child does well. And everyone is well-intentioned. Intentions do count....

*Google monkeys to the rescue: Congreve's The Way of the World. Mirabell and Millamant.
