When I get a minute, I'll blog about this interesting policy article in the Journal of Disability Policy Studies by Trudy Steuernagel. I'm not sure why she lays so much emphasis on no consensus on proper intervention; it seems to me there's reasonable scientific emphasis. She does pay a lot of attention to the policy implications of how autism is defined and what institutions provide (or don't provide) services--she points a finger at the insurance industry, for instance. Which is one of my hobbyhorses: that there's been so much fragmentation in the autism community that we haven't banded together on commonsense issues like better insurance coverage. When I tried to get people interested in pushing for insurance coverage in New York, I got very little response. I tried calling my congressman myself (btw, I was sorry Sidikman lost, but his office pretty much blew me off when I called. I'm just saying) and got nowhere, but I'm one person.
