May I just say that Set and PDQ rule? They have saved my sanity this weekend. For starters, they're relatively noncompetitive, as games go: the turns are fairly short, and there's not an investment in strategy or psyching out your opponent. Given that Secundo is ridiculously thin-skinned and competitive and Prima is correspondingly nasty when she does win, games whose point is NOT about winning and competing are highly valued at the House of Special Needs. Secundo seems to be about as good at Set as I am, which means he's either pretty good at visual-perceptual stuff or I'm astoundingly bad. Second, they're unboring for adults, another highly valued commodity here.

But anyway, it worked well this evening when Prima came pracing in all, "I was just at a party and you-ou WER-en't" and Secundo was all "[Shriek/whine]," and I was able to point out that Secundo and I had a great time by ourselves thankyouverymuch, which got Prima only a little snitty as she reflected that things happen when she's not in the room. Theory of mind, it's a process.
