So we all got the mythological references in last week's Very Special Grey's Anatomy, right, that Meredith was Ferried Across? Though I shouldn't make fun--a literate reference once in awhile is nice.

Since I'm a devoted reader of the Grey's Anatomy writer's blog, I can say with some certainty that I doubt that reference was intentional. I am VERY annoyed at that show, which I really enjoyed for a long time. Don't get me started. (or do!)

Yes, I thought it was a cheesy sweeps stunt, including bringing Denny and Kyle Chandler back. But I'll keep watching, b/c Patrick Dempsey is on it and I need no other reason to watch.

Fair enough, but doesn't Burke's petty emotional blackmail kill you especially when their "relationship problems" are always made to seem like Christina's fault for being too ambitious (like Hillary Clinton - I never hear Barack Obama being called "ambitious" just like Hillary's never called "articulate"!) - and that whole plot line about Ellis Grey (Fred's reason to watch is now gone) saying Meredith is "ordinary" - they've made her ordinary - defined entirely by her mother and her boyfriend. What happened to her ambition, her interest in her work? She's such a tedious character! But I keep watching!

Tis true. I seem to remember the first season George saying "She's the one to beat," but Christina has now been set up as the surgical star. The whole ordinary business just annoys me: is anyone ordinary, ever? It's just such a tedious dichotomy: once again, career woman versus the softer, more womanly conflicted Meredith.

It's starting to remind me of the Hope/Ellyn contrast from thirtysomething, another show that I had a love/hate relationship with.
