So I got that Roy Grinker book in the mail--yay! Along with the Rebekah Heinrichs book Perfect Targets, which a friend of mine commented was too depressing to finish, b/c it's basically her life. Our school district is kind of falling down on the job ITO bullying: there's a significant issue at the middle school level and administration is responding by being reactive instead of having staff development and training and looking at the research that's out there. It's disheartening, b/c it's a chance to do something positive and make a significant difference, b/c the issue is being raised, loudly and repeatedly, by angry parents. And then I get another email from a friend of mine whose kid, very clueless and lacking in social skills, has gotten suspensions and detentions repeatedly in the past couple of weeks. The kids get him to act out, he lashes out physically, he gets caught, nothing happens to them, on and on and on. It's textbook.
