Can I just say that I liked NAAR way better than its incarnation as Autism Speaks? First off, I hate the name. Hate it. Plenty of people with autism speak. Second, it takes away from the focus on research: National Alliance for Autism Research was a grown-up name. We need more research; NAAR was working to get more of it. Third, the new website sucks. I used to like seeing the fundraising tallies from the walks. And I'm sick of seeing Suzanne Wright's face on the homepage. Could we keep the focus on those we're trying to serve, where it belongs? Third, it seems aimed at morons. I realize the former head of NBC may be used to programming for the LCD, but I still don't like the dumbed-down tone/voice. Fourth, you have people like Rick Fucking Santorum, he of man-dog sex, chairing a walk in Pittsburgh. I must have missed the memo seeing what his personal connection was, besides a desire to impress the ever-growing disability wing of the electorate.
I'm sure the Wrights are sincere and they've raised a hell of a lot of money, which I suppose is what really matters. But some of the changes? Unnecessary, strike a wrong note.
There, I feel better.
