New York Story
This is from my friend whose kid goes to an overpriced preschool in Manhattan, though not one of the ones that New York magazine writes about. So anyway, the parents of other preschoolers include among themselves a fair number of people w/intellectual pretensions, and one day it was time to read a story to the class. So one mother, who self-identifies quite frequently as having gone to a New York City-based Ivy League school, comes into school one day and decides to read the class a story, and it's all about the stork bringing a baby to a family, and she reads the story and says, "That's nice, but that's not the way it really happens. What really happens is...." and she proceeds to show them this book of illustrations with body parts and Latin names and the whole shebang.

And the reason everyone knows about this is because a day or two later, one little girl is walking into school with Daddy and says, "What's the name of that liquid that comes out of your penis into Mommy to make babies?" And another little girl has suddenly started drawing very anatomically correct pictures. And gee, where did you learn about it, and so on. I gather a letter of apology from Anatomy Mom has gone out.

That's a really special, unusual flavor of stupidity....
